Issues in Child Abuse: An Introduction

Aims of the Course

This course has been designed to acquaint social services staff with the challenging issues involved when a child has been, or is at risk of being, abused.

It will provide basic information about the four major ways in which children are abused (physical, emotional, neglect and sexual abuse) and the overlap between them. The course will also dispel many of the myths and stereotypes surrounding both the perpetrators of these acts and their victims.

Methods

This course will be delivered through a variety of formats which include formal lectures, case studies, group activities, video material and discussion. Handouts will also be available to accompany the session.

Outline of the Course

The final course content is attained following discussion with the commissioning body in order to properly meet the needs of the target group.
