Train The Trainer - Breakaway Techniques

Introduction

This course has been designed for companies / organisations who want to have their own staff available to offer Breakaway training, with the added back up that they have future access to the training instructor for any further advice or guidance. 

The instructor of this course have been commissioned and utilised by the following sectors:

This course is very intensive so that you can be sure that the trainers that come back to you are competent and capable of safely and effectively carrying out your Breakaway training.

The course is aimed at staff who already have a trainers qualification or experience.

Course Aims

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to run a training course including the following:

Course Content

  • Relevant legislation + legal frameworks
  • Defining Reasonable Force
  • Causes + build-up of an attack
  • Warning + danger signs
  • Challenging behaviour
  • Trigger identification
  • Situational awareness
  • Defensive body positioning + personal space
  • Verbal de-escalation + communication skills
  • Actions to avoid being restrained or attacked
  • Safely disengage from wrist grabs, body grabs, hair / clothing grabs + strangulation
  • Avoid + defend kicks / punches
  • Post incident actions
  • Record keeping + de-briefing

    Course Objectives

    On completion of the course, delegates will be able to:

    • Identify types of assault
    • Understand what factors would escalate to physical aggression + assault
    • Use verbal de-escalation techniques effectively
    • Understand the importance of verbal and non-verbal communication
    • Undertake a Dynamic Risk Assessment
    • Demonstrate a Practice Observation + review breakaway disengagements
    • Understand the importance of documenting + reporting all incidents
    • Be competent to deliver Breakaway training to a group of staff

    Follow Up>

    The Training Instructor will attend two Breakaway training sessions run by the delegates for:

    • Safety
    • Evaluation in Live training environment
    • Be available for any on the day issue
    • Constructive feedback on Breakaway training delivery and techniques

    The delegates will have continuing access to the instructor for advice, guidance or issues via, telephone contact, messaging, emails, online live time eg Microsoft Teams, Facebook live, WhatsApp etc.

    Two days plus two days follow up

    Certification

    Delegates completing the course will receive certification.
