Attitudes

Introduction

This course is designed for staff who are dealing with disabled persons on a day to day basis and who need to understand about attitude and how to overcome attitude problems they may not realize they have.

Objectives

By the end of the course participants will be able to describe stereotyping and discrimination and why they exist towards disabled people.

Participants will be more aware of the impact of their communication when working with disabled persons and will acknowledge their personal responsibility towards ensuring disabled people they work with are treated fairly.

Aims

  1. To show differing views of disabled people by society
  2. To raise awareness and understanding of the attitudes and stereotypes disabled people are subject to and why
  3. To show how to reduce these attitudes when working with people with disabilities
