NEBOSH Diploma - National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health

Introduction

The New NEBOSH Level 4 Diploma has replaced the old Diplomas Part 1 & 2 in line with revised ENTO standards. All aspects of the qualification have been improved to benefit delegates & employers. 

The Level 4 Diploma is designed for individuals who want to progress their career in health & safety & develop more in-depth knowledge & skills aiming to become health & safety practitioners.

The three units' content is outlined below & these are accompanied with a common skills element:

Unit A: Managing Health & Safety

  2. A2 Loss causation and incident investigation
  3. A3 Identifying hazards, assessing and evaluating risk
  4. A4 Risk control and emergency planning
  5. A5 Organisational factors
  6. A6 Human factors
  7. A7 Principles of health and safety law
  8. A8 Criminal law
  9. A9 Civil law
  10. A10 Measuring health and safety performanc

Unit B: Hazardous Agents in the Workplace

  1. B1 General aspects of occupational health and hygiene
  2. B2 Principles of Toxicology and Epidemiology
  3. B3 Chemical Agents – Evaluating Risk
  4. B4 Hazardous Substances – Preventative and Protective Measures
  5. B5 Hazardous Substances – Monitoring and Maintenance of Control Measures
  6. B6 Biological Agents
  7. B7 Physical Agents (1) – Noise and Vibration
  8. B8 Physical Agents (2) – Radiation and Thermal environment
  9. B9 Psycho-social Agents
  10. B10 Ergonomic agents

Unit C: Workplace & Work Equipment

  1. C1 General workplace issues
  2. C2 Principles of fire and explosion
  3. C3 Workplace fire precautions
  4. C4 The storage, handling and processing of dangerous substances
  5. C5 Work equipment
  6. C6 Machinery safety
  7. C7 Mechanical handling
  8. C8 Electrical safety
  9. C9 Safety in construction and demolition
  10. C10 Environmental pollution and waste management

Duration

6 weeks over 11/12 months plus exams.

Examination

It is balanced between exams and continual assessment. Assessments: 3 written assignments, 1 for each unit. 3 Exams: there is one 3-hour exam for each unit respectively.

Certification

After successful completion of the course delegates will be able to use the designatory letters Dip.OSH after their name and MIOSH, corporate membership of IOSH, subject to practical experience.
