Assertiveness Skills
Aims
To give participants an introduction to the concepts of assertiveness and an
understanding of how to apply this to everyday lives.
Objectives
- To enable participants to identify different types of behavior.
- To enable participants to recognize the difference between being assertive
and being aggressive.
- To enable participants to explore how they can apply assertiveness skills
in their everyday lives.
The Course Covers
- What is assertiveness? - The difference between assertive, aggressive,
manipulative and passive behavior types.
- Self esteem - Looking at how we perceive ourselves and others, including
our rights and responsibilities.
- Blocks to being assertive and dealing with conflict -Learning how to say
"No" in a way that is comfortable and to mean it.
- Setting goals for assertiveness - identifying situations in which to be
more assertive and how to deal with them more effectively.
- Group methods
- A participative style is used, including brainstorming exercises,
individual work, pair and small group work with scenarios and role play.
- Courses will always be tailored to meet the specific needs of each group.
